Members of the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom are mourning after a Nigerian man identified as Kayode Ogunbodede reportedly passed away in his sleep in Swansea, Wales.
According to reports circulating online, Ogunbodede died on May 26, 2026, leaving behind his wife and two young daughters.
The incident has sparked emotional reactions among friends, church members and Nigerians living abroad, especially after details emerged about the family he left behind.
A fundraising appeal created by Olatunde Owoeye-Phoster described the death as sudden and heartbreaking for both relatives and members of the Nigerian community in the UK.
The appeal stated that Ogunbodede’s wife is currently a student and unemployed, while their children are just six years old and six months old.
Those who knew him reportedly described him as peaceful, supportive and always willing to help others within the community.
He was also said to be a member of Elim City Church as well as the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
As news of his passing spread online, many Nigerians abroad began sharing condolences while discussing the emotional and financial struggles families often face after sudden losses overseas.
The fundraising campaign launched for the family is expected to support:
- funeral arrangements,
- childcare,
- and household expenses during the difficult period.
At the time the report circulated, the campaign had raised £480 out of its £18,000 target.
The story has also reopened wider conversations online about the realities many immigrants quietly face abroad — balancing studies, work, family responsibilities and financial pressure far away from home and extended relatives.
