The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has presented the 2026 Capital City Role Model Awards to distinguished Nigerians recognised for their leadership, integrity, professional excellence and contributions to community development.

The awards were presented during a ceremony organised by the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), Youth Wing, held in Awka on Friday, July 4, 2026.

The annual event brought together government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, entrepreneurs and invited guests to celebrate individuals whose achievements continue to inspire positive change within Anambra State and beyond.

Deputy Governor Commends Award Recipients

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Ibezim congratulated the award recipients and praised them for serving as examples of responsible leadership and excellence.

He encouraged young people across the state to emulate the values demonstrated by the honourees, stressing that integrity, hard work and community service remain essential ingredients for sustainable development.

According to the organisers, the award seeks to identify individuals whose accomplishments extend beyond professional success to include meaningful contributions to society.

Nine Individuals Recognised

The 2026 edition of the Capital City Role Model Awards recognised nine outstanding individuals from different professional backgrounds.

Among the recipients was Dr. Ugochukwu Morah, who received the award for his leadership, entrepreneurial achievements and commitment to community development.

The organisers noted that recipients were selected based on their integrity, public service, professional accomplishments, mentorship and positive influence within their communities.

Purpose of the Capital City Role Model Awards

The Capital City Role Model Awards were established by the Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC), Youth Wing to celebrate Nigerians whose lives and careers reflect excellence, service and leadership.

The initiative also aims to encourage young people to embrace education, entrepreneurship, innovation and civic responsibility while recognising individuals who continue to contribute to the development of Anambra State.

Over the years, the awards have become a platform for acknowledging people making meaningful contributions across business, public service, education, healthcare and community development.

Youth Development at the Centre

Organisers said the awards go beyond celebrating achievements by providing young people with role models whose stories demonstrate the value of perseverance, ethical leadership and community service.

They noted that recognising positive examples helps inspire the next generation to contribute to nation-building through lawful and productive means.

The event also provided an opportunity for interactions between youth leaders, government officials and award recipients on issues relating to leadership and community development.

Looking Ahead

As the 2026 edition concludes, the organisers expressed optimism that the initiative would continue to identify and celebrate Nigerians whose contributions are helping to shape stronger communities.

They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting excellence, recognising outstanding leadership and encouraging greater youth participation in community development initiatives across Anambra State.
