Years after his dramatic fall from Hollywood’s inner circle, Kevin Spacey is once again facing explosive allegations in court — this time in a civil case involving claims that allegedly date back to the 1970s.
The Oscar-winning actor is currently being sued by three men who accuse him of using his fame, influence and industry status to allegedly prey on younger men over several decades.
According to details discussed during a recent High Court hearing in London, one of the allegations dates back to 1976 when Spacey was reportedly still a student at Chatsworth High School in Los Angeles.
Court submissions claim that one of the men accusing the actor alleged he was inappropriately touched by Spacey while working as a driver during that period.
The claim is now part of a broader civil lawsuit expected to move forward later this year, with damages reportedly exceeding £30,000 being sought by the claimants.
What has made the latest legal battle even more significant is the timeline attached to the accusations. If proven, some of the alleged incidents would stretch back almost half a century, making this one of the longest-ranging allegations connected to the actor so far.
Lawyers representing the men argued during proceedings that the actor allegedly used his position inside the entertainment industry to gain access to vulnerable younger men before allegedly crossing boundaries without consent.
Elizabeth-Anne Gumbel KC, who is representing the claimants, told the court that several allegations involved unexpected physical contact, including attempts to kiss or touch the men without consent.
According to the legal arguments presented, some of the men also claimed there were patterns of attention, gifts and grooming behaviour before the alleged incidents occurred.
Spacey did not appear physically in court during the hearing.
The fresh lawsuit arrives years after the actor’s public image collapsed following a wave of allegations that emerged during the global #MeToo movement.
In 2023, Spacey was acquitted at Southwark Crown Court in London after facing multiple criminal charges linked to alleged sexual assault accusations connected to his time at the Old Vic Theatre.
Despite the acquittal in the criminal proceedings, several individuals later continued pursuing civil claims against the actor — a legal route that focuses on compensation rather than criminal punishment.
The High Court hearing also revealed that the current lawsuit is connected to some allegations previously examined during earlier investigations.
While the actor continues denying wrongdoing, he has previously acknowledged behaviour he described as inappropriate.
Ahead of a 2024 documentary examining allegations against him, Spacey admitted that he may have been “too handsy” in the past, while strongly rejecting accusations that he pressured people sexually in exchange for career opportunities.
“I take full responsibility for my past behaviour and my actions,” the actor said at the time. “But I cannot and will not apologise to anyone who has made up stories about me or exaggerated claims.”
Another major detail that surfaced during the proceedings involved the Old Vic Theatre, where Spacey once served as artistic director.
Court discussions revealed that the theatre had privately reached a settlement with one of the claimants, Ruari Cannon, although the terms of the agreement were not publicly disclosed.
The theatre reportedly stated that the settlement did not amount to an admission of liability and was made partly to avoid prolonged legal costs and additional litigation.
For many observers, the case marks another chapter in the long-running controversy that transformed Spacey from one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors into one of the entertainment industry’s most polarizing figures.
Before the allegations emerged publicly years ago, Spacey had built a career defined by critically acclaimed performances in projects such as American Beauty, The Usual Suspects and the political drama series House of Cards.
Now, with the new civil lawsuit moving toward a full hearing later this year, attention has once again shifted back to the actor’s legal troubles and the wider conversations surrounding power, celebrity influence and accountability within the entertainment industry.
