Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has announced that he has officially joined the United States Army, describing the milestone as the fulfilment of a personal dream and a touching tribute to his late father.
The actor shared the news on his official Instagram page on Friday, revealing that he successfully completed 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before earning his enlistment as a Specialist (SPC) in the US Army.
Sharing photos from his graduation ceremony, Momodu reflected on the demanding journey, saying the accomplishment was built on discipline, resilience and determination.
“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits,” he wrote.
Joseph Momodu Reflects on Gruelling Military Training
According to the actor, the military training pushed him beyond his comfort zone both physically and mentally.
He recalled enduring exhaustion, harsh weather conditions, sleepless nights and moments of self-doubt before finally completing the programme.
“There were moments of doubt and times I questioned myself, ‘who send me message sef’? But I never lost sight of the finish line.”
Momodu said the experience transformed him completely.
“We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier.”
He added that one of the biggest lessons he learned throughout the programme was how to “find comfort in discomfort.”
Actor Says Enlistment Honours Late Father
Beyond the military achievement, Momodu revealed that joining the US Army carried deep emotional significance because it allowed him to continue the legacy of his late father.
According to him, his father served in the Nigeria Police Force, and enlisting in the US Army exactly two decades after his passing was his way of honouring that service.
“On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a historic way. Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army.”
Officially Specialist J.A. Momodu
The Nollywood actor disclosed that he now serves as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu with 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
He dedicated the achievement to God, his late father and the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II of the Avyuele Clan in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Momodu also appreciated the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, for helping him through the enlistment process and thanked his associate, Akeem Ogara, for managing his social media accounts throughout the 10-week training period.
His announcement has since attracted congratulatory messages from fans, colleagues and well-wishers, many of whom praised his determination and wished him success in his military career.
