The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has conferred a traditional chieftaincy title on Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, and presented him with a brand new car, marking another major chapter in the actor’s life following his release from prison.
Baba Ijesha announced the development on his official Facebook page on Thursday, July 3, where he shared photos from the palace and expressed gratitude to the revered monarch for the honour and hospitality extended to him and his family.
According to the actor, the Ooni bestowed on him the title “Baba Awada Konge Oduwa” during the visit, while also welcoming his wife, Afolashade Omiyinka, popularly known as CEO Luminee.
The announcement quickly gained traction across social media, with many congratulating the actor while others questioned the decision because of his previous conviction.
Baba Ijesha Thanks Ooni for the Honour
Sharing photos from the palace, Baba Ijesha described the experience as one he would never forget, thanking the monarch for the recognition, gifts, and warm reception.
The actor also acknowledged the presence of his wife during the visit, expressing appreciation for the royal family’s hospitality.
Although he did not disclose the reasons behind the honour, the conferment of a traditional title by one of Nigeria’s most influential monarchs is widely regarded as a significant recognition within Yoruba culture.
Traditional chieftaincy titles are often awarded to individuals considered to have contributed to society, culture, entertainment, business, or community development. While some titles carry administrative responsibilities, others are largely honorary and serve as recognition of an individual’s relationship with a traditional institution.
Honour Sparks Mixed Reactions Online
News of the chieftaincy title quickly sparked debate across social media platforms.
Many supporters congratulated Baba Ijesha, describing the honour as evidence that he has begun rebuilding his life after serving a prison sentence.
Others, however, questioned whether the recognition was appropriate given the actor’s criminal conviction, arguing that public honours should take such history into account.
Another group of commenters maintained that, having served his sentence, Baba Ijesha should be allowed the opportunity to move forward with his life without facing perpetual public condemnation.
The differing reactions reflect the continuing public divide over the actor’s return to the spotlight.
Baba Ijesha’s Legal Troubles
The latest development comes several years after one of the most widely publicised legal cases involving a Nigerian entertainer.
In 2021, Baba Ijesha was arrested following allegations of sexual offences involving a minor. The case attracted nationwide attention and generated widespread public discussion.
After months of legal proceedings, a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja delivered judgment in July 2022, finding the actor guilty on several counts relating to sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.
The court imposed multiple prison terms across different counts, with the sentences ordered to run concurrently. Based on the judgment, he was expected to serve a five-year prison sentence.
In November 2025, Baba Ijesha was released from prison after serving part of his sentence.
Life After Prison
Since regaining his freedom, Baba Ijesha has gradually returned to public life.
He resumed activity on social media and later married celebrity stylist Abiodun Tokunbo, widely known as CEO Luminee, whose fashion brand has attracted a growing following.
In June 2026, the couple announced the birth of their son, King Kagar Omiyinka, a development that generated widespread reactions among fans and entertainment followers.
The actor has since continued sharing moments from his personal life, signalling what appears to be an effort to rebuild both his family life and public image.
Ooni of Ife’s Recognition of Public Figures
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, is one of Nigeria’s foremost traditional rulers and is known for recognising individuals across entertainment, business, academia, and other sectors through honorary visits and traditional titles.
Over the years, the monarch has hosted numerous celebrities, entrepreneurs, politicians, and cultural figures at the ancient palace in Ile-Ife as part of efforts to promote Yoruba heritage and strengthen cultural institutions.
The latest recognition of Baba Ijesha is expected to remain a subject of public discussion, particularly because of the actor’s controversial past and his ongoing return to public life.
While supporters see the honour as part of his rehabilitation after serving a prison sentence, critics argue that the decision raises broader questions about accountability and public recognition.
For now, Baba Ijesha says he remains grateful to the Ooni of Ife for what he described as an unforgettable honour.
