Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared a message many might not expect from the head of one of the world’s biggest tech companies — spend less time on your phone.
Speaking in an interview with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan, the 65-year-old executive reflected on Apple’s 50-year journey, recent global trade challenges, and the company’s involvement in music education through its partnership with Save The Music.
However, it was his comments on smartphone use that stood out.
“I don’t want people using them too much,” Cook said, referring to Apple’s devices.
He added that people should not spend their time constantly staring at screens instead of engaging with others.
“I don’t want people looking at the smartphone more than they’re looking in someone’s eyes; as if they’re scrolling endlessly,” he said.
Cook emphasized that this is not how people should spend their day, encouraging users to disconnect and reconnect with the real world.
“This is not how you want to spend your day. Go out and spend it in nature,” he added.
His comments come at a time when concerns about excessive smartphone use continue to grow.
A recent study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry noted that while smartphones have become an essential part of daily life, overuse can have negative effects.
According to the study, excessive smartphone usage can lead to physical discomfort and increase feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression.
Cook’s remarks highlight an ongoing conversation about the balance between technology and real-life interactions, especially in an increasingly digital world.
