American pop star Britney Spears has reportedly been arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence.
According to records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the 44-year-old singer was taken into custody late on Wednesday, March 4. Authorities confirmed that Spears was later released from custody early Thursday morning after being processed.
Officials said the singer was booked by the sheriff’s office around 3 a.m. before being released a few hours later. Details surrounding the circumstances of the arrest have not yet been fully disclosed.
Spears is expected to appear in court on May 4, when the matter will be addressed before a judge.
Arrest Comes Amid Recent Legal Issues
The reported arrest follows recent legal developments involving the singer.
Earlier reports indicated that Spears had recently secured a restraining order against a man from Louisiana who allegedly harassed her for more than a decade. The court order was granted after claims that the individual had repeatedly attempted to contact and approach the singer.
Past Legal Trouble
While Spears remains one of the most successful pop artists of her generation, she has previously faced legal issues earlier in her career.
In 2007, she was involved in a case related to an alleged hit-and-run incident involving a parked vehicle in Los Angeles. The charges in that case were eventually dropped after damages were paid to the owner of the car.
Life After the Conservatorship
In recent years, Spears has focused on rebuilding her personal and financial independence following the end of the conservatorship that had controlled many aspects of her life for over a decade.
In early 2024, the singer publicly stated that she had no plans to return to the music industry after regaining control of her career and finances.
More recently, reports revealed that Spears sold the rights to her entire music catalogue to independent music publisher Primary Wave in a deal estimated to be worth about $200 million.
The agreement marked another major milestone in the singer’s post-conservatorship life as she continues to reshape her career on her own terms.
