Bola Tinubu has secured a sweeping victory in the nationwide presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress, defeating challenger Stanley Osifo in what party leaders described as a major show of unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise, which took place across thousands of APC wards nationwide, quickly transformed from an ordinary party primary into what many party stakeholders openly called a “vote of confidence” in Tinubu’s leadership.
From Lagos to Borno, Rivers to Kebbi, governors, ministers, lawmakers and party leaders mobilized supporters massively as the President dominated the polls in almost every state announced.
According to collated results released across different states, Tinubu secured millions of votes nationwide while Osifo managed only scattered votes in a handful of locations.
The Moment APC Turned The Primary Into A Nationwide Endorsement
What stood out throughout the exercise was not just Tinubu’s victory margin, but the coordinated political support visibly displayed across APC structures nationwide.
In several states, party officials openly framed the exercise as preparation for continuity beyond 2027.
In Lagos, Tinubu cast his vote alongside Oluremi Tinubu at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2, where he was received by top APC figures including Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party leaders.
Speaking after voting, the President described the process as proof of internal democracy within the ruling party.
“This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate,” Tinubu said during the exercise.
State-By-State Results Show Overwhelming Dominance
Across different regions, APC leaders announced landslide figures in favor of the President.
In Borno State, Tinubu reportedly secured every accredited vote in Governor Babagana Zulum’s ward, while Osifo recorded zero votes.
Delta State also delivered more than 400,000 votes for the President according to party officials, while Bayelsa State, Rivers State and Kaduna State all reported overwhelming victories for Tinubu.
Even in states where Osifo managed to record votes, the margins remained heavily one-sided.
The challenger’s strongest outing reportedly came from Abia State where he secured just over one thousand votes.
APC Leaders Say Exercise Reflects Party Unity
Several top APC figures used the exercise to publicly reinforce support for Tinubu’s administration despite ongoing economic criticism facing the federal government.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda described the primary as evidence of party cohesion and democratic strength ahead of future elections.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila also argued that many Nigerians still believe in the long-term direction of Tinubu’s reforms despite present economic hardship.
Across states like Kebbi, Osun, Oyo and Zamfara, governors and senior party figures openly urged members to remain united ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Why The Primary Matters Beyond APC
Although the 2027 general election is still years away, the APC primary outcome already sends a strong political message.
For many observers, the exercise was less about competition and more about consolidating Tinubu’s authority within the ruling party structure before national campaigns eventually begin.
The overwhelming results also suggest that, at least internally, APC leaders are attempting to project stability, unity and continuity despite growing opposition conversations nationally.
With the primaries now concluded, attention is expected to gradually shift toward how opposition parties respond and position themselves ahead of what could become another highly competitive presidential race in Nigeria.
