Nollywood actor and politician Emeka Ike has vowed to take action against Lere Olayinka following the publication of what he claims were his personal voter registration details obtained from the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The controversy erupted after Olayinka shared screenshots on social media following the conclusion of the House of Representatives election for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a race in which Emeka Ike contested under the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
In the post, Olayinka alleged that the actor was originally registered as a voter in Imo State before transferring his voter registration to the FCT shortly before the election.
The screenshots reportedly contained sensitive information, including Ike’s voter identification details, registration centre information, application number, profile photograph and other personal records.
The publication immediately triggered concerns online, with many Nigerians questioning how such information was accessed and whether voter data was adequately protected.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Emeka Ike described the incident as disturbing and accused Olayinka of abusing access to information that should remain private.
According to the actor, the incident raises broader concerns about data protection and the security of citizens’ personal information.
“It is the height of political rascality for a government officer to access a citizen’s information from the INEC cyber system,” Ike said.
He argued that the situation sends a dangerous message that personal records can be accessed and shared without consequences.
The actor maintained that beyond being a personal issue, the incident affects every Nigerian whose information is stored within government databases.
Ike also made it clear that he intends to pursue the matter.
“Actions are ready, I’m ready to take him on. He has no right to exploit my privacy and insult Nigerians the way he did,” he stated.
The controversy has added another layer to political discussions surrounding the recently concluded election.
Addressing criticism over his decision to contest in Abuja rather than his home state of Imo, Ike explained that he responded to appeals from supporters who encouraged him to seek office in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, concerns about development and governance in Abuja influenced his decision to relocate his political ambition to the FCT.
As of the time of reporting, INEC had not publicly commented on the alleged exposure of voter data, while discussions continue online about privacy, cybersecurity and accountability in Nigeria’s political space.
