YouTuber Jesse Ridgway and his wife, Ashley Ridgway, have publicly shared the difficult decision to end a pregnancy after doctors diagnosed their unborn child with Trisomy 21, commonly known as Down syndrome.
In a statement posted to his Instagram Stories on June 3, Jesse explained that the couple recently underwent a pregnancy termination following extensive discussions with medical professionals, family members and genetic counselors.
“This week, my wife and I made the very difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy due to Trisomy 21,” Jesse wrote. “The choice was not made lightly.”
The content creator acknowledged that some followers may disagree with their decision but described the experience as emotionally challenging for both him and his wife.
According to Jesse, his initial reaction to the diagnosis was one of optimism. However, after learning more about the potential medical complications and lifelong challenges that can accompany Down syndrome, the couple reassessed their plans.
He referenced health issues that can be associated with the condition, including heart defects, hearing difficulties and developmental delays, saying the information played a significant role in their decision-making process.
Jesse also revealed that he sought advice from doctors, genetic counselors, friends and family members before making the final decision.
Addressing members of his audience who live with Down syndrome or autism, Jesse expressed appreciation for their support and emphasized that their decision was personal to their family’s circumstances.
“You matter a lot and we’re glad you’re here,” he wrote.
The influencer said he and Ashley believe they made the right choice for their family and expressed hope about trying for another child in the future.
“It will take a little time to move on, but we are excited to try again in the future and hopefully have a better outcome,” he added.
The New Jersey-based couple first announced they were expecting in March, sharing ultrasound images on social media and revealing that their baby was due in the fall of 2026.
Their announcement about the pregnancy termination has since generated widespread discussion online, with reactions ranging from support to criticism as followers debate reproductive choices and prenatal diagnoses.
