Aaniyah Nowden appears in court after being convicted in the fatal shooting of pregnant mother of five Justina Wallace in Alabama.

Pregnant Woman Sentenced to Life in Prison for Fatal Shooting of Mother of Five in Alabama

Posted on June 3, 2026

An Alabama woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole after being convicted in the fatal shooting of a pregnant mother of five during a dispute in Birmingham.

Aaniyah Nowden was found guilty of capital murder in the July 7, 2023, killing of Justina Wallace, 36, according to court records cited by local media reports. Both women were pregnant at the time of the incident, and reports indicate they were expecting children with the same man.

Prosecutors said Wallace was holding her toddler when she was shot outside Nowden’s residence in Birmingham. Wallace’s unborn child also died as a result of the shooting.

During the trial, jurors heard that Wallace had gone to Nowden’s home on the day of the incident, where an argument broke out involving the two women and the children’s father. Nowden claimed she acted in self-defense when she fired the fatal shots.

Evidence presented in court reportedly included cell phone video footage of the encounter. Prosecutors argued that Wallace was unarmed and posed no threat at the time she was shot.

“This defendant shot and killed a pregnant woman who was carrying nothing but her baby in her arms,” Deputy District Attorney Jason Wilson told the court, according to local reports. “Justina had no weapon, no gun, she wasn’t attacking anybody.”

At the time of the shooting, Wallace’s toddler and two of her other children were reportedly nearby.

Nowden was initially charged with three counts of capital murder. However, jurors dismissed two of those charges before ultimately convicting her on one count of capital murder.

Following the conviction, a Jefferson County judge sentenced Nowden to life in prison without the possibility of parole, bringing the high-profile case to a close nearly three years after the fatal shooting.

Nobody has any right to terminate another person’s life during argument. Disagreement can be settled after some time but executing someone in broad daylight puts the dead person dead forever.

Gun is deadly and should not be used to settle a dispute. The law is there for everyone and nobody has the right to take the law into their hands.
Spending an entire lifetime in a dungeon for a wrong avoidable act should serve as a serious warning for humans who cannot hold themselves at a slightest argument. Remember our terrible enemy is not the person one is arguing with but the unseen demon called ANGER
