VeryDarkMan addressing protesters during the anti-terror demonstration in Abuja.

VeryDarkMan Criticises Security Agencies During Abuja Anti-Terror Protest

Posted on June 12, 2026

By Mary Phillip

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has sparked widespread reactions after openly criticising security agencies while addressing participants at an anti-terror protest in Abuja.

The demonstration, held under the banner “Terrorists Must Go,” focused on rising insecurity, kidnappings, and violent attacks affecting communities across Nigeria.

Speaking to protesters, VeryDarkMan questioned the effectiveness of some security personnel deployed to monitor the demonstration, particularly members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“You Nigerian soldiers standing here know the truth. Even the Civil Defence personnel standing here, e never tey una get level. I don’t even know what una dey do here too,” he said in a video that has since circulated widely online.

The activist also referenced recent security incidents, including reports of attacks by armed criminals in Kogi State.

“Just yesterday, being 10th June 2026, kidnappers went to Kogi State and struck,” he told protesters, while calling for stronger action against insecurity across the country.

Protest Focuses on Insecurity

The protest comes amid growing public concern over kidnappings, terrorism, and attacks on communities in different parts of Nigeria.

In recent weeks, insecurity has dominated national conversations following reports of school abductions, attacks on rural communities, and calls by civil society groups for urgent government intervention.

VeryDarkMan has emerged as one of several public figures using social media platforms and public demonstrations to draw attention to the issue.

Videos from the Abuja protest quickly gained traction online, generating debate among Nigerians over the role of activists, government authorities, and security agencies in addressing the country’s challenges.

Nigerians React

Many social media users expressed support for the activist’s comments, arguing that insecurity has become a major concern for ordinary citizens.

Others, however, accused him of politicising sensitive national issues and using public demonstrations to attack government institutions.

One user, identified as @EkyDorlyn, wrote:

“The Nigerian police and other security men should even be at the forefront of protests in Nigeria because they are also affected heavily.”

Another user, @TheFishProf, criticised the activist and questioned his motives.

Meanwhile, @KaluHarvard argued that insecurity should be treated as a national issue rather than a political one.

The debate continues to generate discussion online as Nigerians weigh different perspectives on insecurity, governance, and the role of activism in demanding accountability.

Security Concerns Remain Major National Issue

The protest comes at a time when security remains one of the most pressing concerns facing the country.

Recent incidents involving kidnappings, attacks on schools, and community invasions have intensified calls for stronger security measures and reforms.

As discussions continue, the Abuja protest has once again placed the spotlight on public frustration over insecurity and the growing demand for lasting solutions.

“You Nigerian soldiers standing here know the truth. Even the Civil Defence personnel standing here, e never tey una get level. I don’t even know what una dey do here too.”
