“Take It to Edo State” – Arewa Youth Leader Warns VeryDarkMan Against ‘Tinubu Must Go’ Protest
By Desmond Ogbonmwan
Fresh controversy has erupted online after an Arewa youth leader reportedly warned social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), against organising or participating in any protest carrying the slogan “Tinubu Must Go” in Abuja or any part of Northern Nigeria.
The youth leader reportedly advised the outspoken activist to take any such demonstration to Edo State instead of staging it in the Federal Capital Territory or northern states.
The comments surfaced amid growing public discussions about insecurity, kidnappings, and violent attacks across several parts of Nigeria, issues that VeryDarkMan has repeatedly spoken about in recent weeks.
VDM has been vocal in demanding stronger action from authorities over rising security concerns, particularly following reports of kidnappings and attacks affecting communities in different parts of the country.
Protest Debate Sparks Reactions
The remarks quickly generated debate across social media platforms, with many Nigerians arguing that peaceful protest remains a constitutional right guaranteed to all citizens regardless of location.
Several users questioned why criticism was being directed at protesters rather than the insecurity concerns that have prompted public demonstrations.
Others argued that Abuja, being the Federal Capital Territory, belongs to all Nigerians and should remain open to lawful civic engagement.
Nigerians React Online
The statement triggered hundreds of reactions, with many social media users expressing support for VeryDarkMan’s activism.
One user argued that citizens should be free to raise concerns about insecurity without intimidation, while another questioned why public anger was being directed at protesters instead of addressing the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.
Others maintained that peaceful protests are a legitimate democratic tool for drawing attention to issues affecting the country.
The debate has further highlighted growing public frustration over insecurity and economic hardship, topics that have increasingly dominated conversations across social media and public discourse.
Growing Focus on Insecurity
The controversy comes at a time when security has become one of the country’s most discussed issues, with recent reports of kidnappings, attacks on communities, and concerns raised by civil society groups.
Several activists and public figures have called on authorities to strengthen security measures and provide greater protection for citizens across the country.
As reactions continue to pour in online, the discussion surrounding VeryDarkMan’s activism and the broader issue of public protests is expected to remain a major talking point in the days ahead.
