BBNaija star Phyna speaking emotionally during a live session about family pressure and financial responsibilities.

“I Became The Bad Person When I Started Saying No” — Phyna Opens Up On Family Pressure After BBNaija Fame

For many people watching from the outside, winning Big Brother Naija looks like the beginning of a dream life.

But for reality TV star Phyna, the fame and money that came after the show also introduced a different kind of emotional burden — one she says slowly changed her relationship with family members.

During an emotional live session online, the former BBNaija winner reflected on how constant financial demands from relatives gradually became overwhelming after her rise to fame.

According to her, things only changed when she finally began refusing some of the requests.

“That’s when I became the bad person,” she said emotionally during the livestream.

“I Was Sharing Money Like A Fool”

Phyna admitted that immediately after becoming successful, she believed helping everybody financially was the right thing to do.

She said she constantly sent money to relatives whenever they called, without stopping to properly think about long-term planning or personal financial security.

“I thought I was helping my family sort out things,” she said.

The reality star also expressed disappointment that none of the older family members around her encouraged her to invest wisely or slow down her spending habits.

Instead, according to her, the requests kept increasing.

The Financial Requests Never Stopped

While speaking during the session, Phyna recounted several situations where relatives allegedly demanded large sums of money for different personal needs.

From burial support to borehole projects and other family responsibilities, she claimed the expectations became endless.

At some point, she said she started reducing the amounts she gave out because her finances were gradually shrinking.

“Someone will ask for one million naira and I’ll say let me give you five hundred thousand instead,” she explained.

But according to her, even trying to reduce the support created tension within the family.

“The Problems Started When I Began Saying No”

Phyna revealed that many of her family conflicts allegedly started after she became more cautious financially.

She explained that before fame, many people around her doubted her future and underestimated her potential.

But after becoming successful, expectations around her suddenly changed.

The reality star also recalled an early disagreement involving her father over an expensive roofing decision shortly after her BBNaija victory — an argument she described as one of the first moments she realized financial disagreements were beginning to affect family relationships.

A Conversation Many Young Celebrities Understand

Beyond celebrity gossip, Phyna’s comments have sparked wider conversations online about financial pressure placed on successful family members in African homes.

Across social media, many Nigerians reacted by sharing similar experiences involving relatives, financial expectations and emotional guilt tied to success.

Others argued that fame often creates unrealistic assumptions about wealth, especially when public figures appear financially comfortable online.

While reactions continue pouring in, many viewers described Phyna’s emotional livestream as one of her most vulnerable public moments since leaving the BBNaija house.
