President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah, where he is expected to pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity and continued progress.
Tinubu arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah on Thursday, October 29, after departing Abuja earlier in the afternoon. He was received by Nigeria’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Yakubu Gambo, and the Kingdom’s Head of Royal Protocol, Ahmad bin Thafir.
In a statement announcing the trip, the Presidency said the visit would provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for the country.
While in Makkah, Tinubu was expected to perform the religious rites associated with Umrah and seek Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.
Saudi Arabia’s official news agency subsequently reported on Friday, October 30, that the President had performed the Umrah rites.
The Presidency had said Tinubu was expected to return to Nigeria the following week after completing the spiritual exercise.
